Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Police then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved quickly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
