Defiant Nancy insists he is not worried about dismissal but Celtic fans show anger following loss.
The under-pressure manager insisted he was not afraid of dismissal, claiming, “We are really close to a turnaround,” despite sliding worryingly close to being fired with a convincing defeat by Rangers.
A Second-Half Capitulation Leads to Old Firm Defeat
Celtic had led the visitors at half-time but a second-half capitulation let the Gers to draw level on points with the current league title holders. The French coach, who was appointed from the MLS, has now presided over six losses in his first eight fixtures.
“The board and I are united at the club,” stated Nancy.
Pressed on whether he was concerned, he responded: “That’s not my focus. I concentrate on discovering solutions to get the team to improve on details.
Protest On Display
The fans voiced their fury – aimed at the hierarchy – by protesting at Parkhead. The board are thought to be considering to re-appoint the interim manager, who enjoyed a successful caretaker period last year, should a change be made.
“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. So this is the situation for the moment. Yet when I say that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. Absolutely not. My point is the turnaround is near, really, really close to reverse our form.”
Focus on the Details
The coach highlights the fact the side can perform strongly for one half at a time. Indeed, but for poor finishing they could have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we didn't take our chances,” he said. “I know that we lost, but it's important to stay fair.
“The level we had at times was of top quality. That is a fact. I wouldn't say that if it was different. But that’s why, in terms of results, I said we've seen this before. For that reason I believe a change is coming to things turning around. Currently: the fine margins.”
“We produced a lot of encouraging signs that we did, as was the case today. But now is performing for 90 minutes. My narrative would be different the same. That’s why I firmly believe we will manage to turn things around.”
Röhl’s Cautious Stance
Danny Röhl was cautious about a championship push in spite of what felt like a landmark win. “We take it game by game, and we can develop momentum,” he said. “The faith in the team is immense.”
