The British tennis star earned the biggest win of his professional journey by rebounding from a lost first set to overcome world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Although he had earlier defeated Alcaraz on two separate matches, this triumph represents Norrie's maiden win over a reigning world number one.

"Massive. Incredibly significant for me," said Norrie, who joins as the newest English competitor in history to overcome a world No 1. "Bouncing back from a physical setback last year, I lost in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to appreciate my game in the second half of the year. To secure a triumph like this, it's the most significant win of my professional life, my initial victory over the global number one and probably the strongest athlete in the world right now."

Norrie, positioned No 31, also ended Alcaraz's dominant run of nine consecutive finals and 17 successive Masters 1000 wins, which represented the finest stretch of performances in the young champion's developing career.

Match Breakdown

Alcaraz appeared to be advancing smoothly towards victory at the start as he cruised past the opening set. Nevertheless, Norrie steadily battled back into the match by delivering with improved accuracy and pulling the Spaniard into lengthy, physical points. His persistent steadiness and reliability gradually left its mark.

For much of the battle, the world number one served well but he struggled badly to locate his rhythm off his groundstrokes.
