The acclaimed police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.

Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."

He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.

Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."

"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
