The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
